Why I Learned to Read

I was one of those kids who didn’t learn to read by the end of 3rd grade; phonix just didn’t work for me. In later years, when The Three Rs became political mantras for “fixing” the education systems and phonix was touted as the cure-all, many experts claimed that any child who didn’t learn to read by the end of 3rd grade would never learn to read. Comprehension is all about pattern recognition, as shown by this missive now making the rounds with lightning speed:
