But the intel was bogus and he may have been an Iranian<br \/>\ndouble-agent who fed the Whitehouse whatever it wanted to hear, and what<br \/>\nIran needed it to hear. As a result the United States eliminated Iran&#8217;s<br \/>\ngreatest threat to regional hegemony, and just may turn it into an<br \/>\nideologically-sympathetic state.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Washington&#8217;s Chalabi nightmare<\/strong> by Sidney Blumenthal<\/p>\n<p>\n<i>The Iraqi neocon favorite, tipped to lead his liberated country<br \/>\npost-invasion, has been identified by the CIA and Defense Intelligence<br \/>\nAgency as an Iranian double agent, passing secrets to that citadel of the<br \/>\n&#8220;axis of evil&#8221; for decades&#8230; Either Chalabi perpetrated the greatest con<br \/>\nsince the Trojan horse or he was the agent of influence for the most<br \/>\nsuccessful intelligence operation conducted by Iran, or both.<\/p>\n<p>\nWashington, which was just weeks ago in the grip of neoconservative<br \/>\northodoxy and absolute belief in Bush&#8217;s inevitability and righteousness,<br \/>\nis now in the throes of agonizing events and being ripped apart by<br \/>\ninvestigations.
