One<br \/>\nof my projects was to find out if the US Government had encourage Intel<br \/>\nto include a unique identifier on the PIII chips. The tool was the <a>HREF=&#8221;http:\/\/library.lp.findlaw.com\/articles\/file\/00046\/001869\/title\/Subject\/to<br \/>\npic\/Constitutional%20Law_Freedom%20of%20Information\/filename\/constitutionallaw_<br \/>\n1_88&#8221;&gt;<br \/>\nFreedom of Information Act<\/a> (FOIA), which we used to query every<br \/>\ngovernment agency that could have <i>concievably<\/i> have had something to<br \/>\ndo with it.<\/p>\n<p>One of the hundreds of letters I sent was posted to a listserv and ended<br \/>\nup on the web. [<a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.politechbot.com\/p-00258.html\">URL<\/a>]<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Freedom of Information Act Officer<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Department of Commerce<\/p>\n<p>14th &#38; Constitution Ave., N.W.<\/p>\n<p>Washington, DC 20230<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Re: Freedom of Information Act Request<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Dear Sir or Madam:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This letter constitutes a request under the Freedom of Information<br \/>\nAct (&#8220;FOIA&#8221;), 5 U.S.C. \u00ef\u00bf\u00bd 552, and is submitted on behalf of the Electronic<br \/>\nPrivacy Information Center (&#8220;EPIC&#8221;).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We request copies of all agency records concerning, discussing or<br \/>\nrelating to proposals and\/or techniques for imbedding unique identifiers<br \/>\nin<br \/>\ncomputer chips in order to identify a particular computer.  This request<br \/>\nincludes, but is not limited to, any records concerning Intel<br \/>\nCorporation&#8217;s<br \/>\ndecision to include a unique Processor Serial Number (PSN) in every one of<br \/>\nits Pentium III chips.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For purposes of fee assessments, we request that EPIC be placed in<br \/>\nthe category of &#8220;news media&#8221; requester. EPIC publishes a biweekly<br \/>\nelectronic newsletter, issues regular public reports and analyses, and<br \/>\nmaintains a free online electronic library. EPIC staff members also are<br \/>\nregular contributors to numerous newspapers, newsletters, magazines, and<br \/>\nlaw reviews. Any information that is obtained as a result of this request<br \/>\nwill be disseminated though  these publications and others.  We note that<br \/>\nmany agencies have already recognized that EPIC qualifies for &#8220;news media&#8221;<br \/>\nstatus.
