For some guys\u00a0it\u2019s their trucks, when I was 12 it was the BBS. I was looking around for\u00a0some old software from the Pre-Netscape era when I pulled up a May 2002\u00a0Salon.com article titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/tech\/feature\/2002\/05\/31\/back_in_the_day\/print.html\">When\u00a0300 baud was the bomb<\/a>. Yeah.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019 s what it wa s like.<\/p>\n<p>The net\u2019s filled\u00a0with tributes to the BBS, but that reminded me of an OpenDNA Project from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/opendna.com\/blog\/?tag=The-Viper-Pit\">the\u00a0Viper Pit<\/a> days.<\/p>\n<p>Republished with prejudice: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opendna.com\/com8\/\">The\u00a0Legacy of COM8 BBS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbsdocumentary.com\/index.html\">BBS: The\u00a0Documentary<\/a> is scheduled to be released this year. It includes over\u00a0200 interviews with luminaries like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phrack.org\/show.php?p=7&amp;a=3\">The Mentor<\/a>, Wayne Bell\u00a0(author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wwiv.com\/\">WWIV<\/a>), Stephen Jones (<a href=\"http:\/\/sdf.lonestar.org\">SDF Public Access Unix<\/a>), Deth Vegetable\u00a0(cDc) and member of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acid.org\/\">ACiD<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ice.org\/\">iCE<\/a>, and many others.
